Why do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance is incredibly important for anyone thinking of going abroad. It means you’re covered for unexpected costs, from medical treatment, delays, replacing lost items and more.
No one likes to imagine anything unpleasant happening on their travels. However, there’s always a risk that the worst could happen.

Healthcare costs could be higher than you’d think. In the US, needing an ambulance could incur charges of around $1,300 (roughly €1,170) and a single overnight stay in a hospital can set you back $10,000 (approx. €9,000).
Luggage loss and mishandling are on the rise. For international flights, around 20 out of every 1000 bags are reported as lost, delayed or missing.
With the right travel insurance, these unexpected expenses won’t leave you out of pocket, as we’ll cover the costs. This could save you hundreds or even thousands of pounds.

Insurance protects you against a host of holiday mishaps, including:

  • Having to cancel or cut short your trip for any reasons beyond your control.
  • Missed, delayed or cancelled transport – including flights.
  • Any emergency medical costs, such as trips to hospital or any medication you might need.
  • Any personal injuries or, in the event of death, the costs to get your body back to the Republic of Ireland.
  • Any lost, stolen or damaged items, including your baggage, passports, money or gadgets, like phones or laptops.
  • Items that are accidentally damaged or any injuries you accidentally cause to others.

This means you can travel worry-free, knowing that costs from these unexpected issues are covered.
